Editorial Policy

This page explains how My Nice Flat Belly chooses, writes, and checks its information. Health topics need extra care, so we keep our rules simple and public.

What we publish

General educational information about waist health, physical activity, nutrition and healthy aging, plus free calculators and printable resources. We do not provide medical advice. See our disclaimer.

How we choose sources

We base health information on:

  • public-health and government organizations, such as the NHS, the US National Institutes of Health (including NIDDK and NIA), the CDC and the World Health Organization
  • recognized professional organizations
  • major academic medical centers, such as Mayo Clinic and Harvard Health Publishing, which we use mainly to explain a topic alongside the sources above and describe with care when they are older or less specific
  • systematic reviews and high-quality published research

We prefer original sources over news articles or summaries of them. We do not use forums, social media posts, supplement sellers, or anonymous websites as sources for health claims. Our full list is on the sources page.

How a page is written

  1. We start from one clear question that readers actually ask.
  2. We find the relevant guidance from our named sources.
  3. We explain it in our own plain words and avoid copying text.
  4. We list the sources on the page and add a last-reviewed date.
  5. We check that the page does not promise results, give personal medical advice or go beyond what the sources say.

Numbers and thresholds

We only state numbers or thresholds, such as “keep your waist to less than half your height”, when we can attribute them to a named source. We do not invent targets or make up risk categories.

How our tools work

  • Waist-to-height ratio is your waist circumference divided by your height, in the same units.
  • BMI is your weight in kilograms divided by your height in metres squared.
  • All calculations run in your browser. We do not store or send the numbers you enter.
  • Results are screening measures for education. They do not diagnose any condition and can be affected by measurement error, muscle mass, body shape and other factors.

What we do not cover

  • diagnosis, treatment advice, prescription medications or condition-specific guidance
  • fat-burning claims, fast-results promises, detoxes or extreme diets
  • supplement reviews or supplement-led recommendations
  • before-and-after transformations

Keeping content up to date

Each page shows a last-reviewed date. We recheck our sources at least once a year, and sooner if guidance changes. When a page is updated in a meaningful way, we change the date.

Corrections

If you think something on this site is wrong or out of date, please tell us through our contact page, with the page address and the source you are relying on. We will review it and correct the page if needed.

Advertising and independence

We do not accept payment to change what we write or to feature products. If we ever add advertising or affiliate links, we will say so clearly on this page and next to the links.
